Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Custody

Presently, I have phyical custody of my 4 yr. old daugter. I was never married to her father. He has had liberal visistation for the last two years although I've been issued two Order of Protections from both Family and Criminal Court during the past two years. Is it possible for him to attain both physical and legal custody at this point? Should I be aiming to obtain leagal custody?
