Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My divorce lawyer has my alimony checks written in his name and holds them in an escrow account. He tells me that if I give him my alimony checks to put toward the amount I owe him currently, he will forgive any amount that is still owed at the time of my settlement. Is it wise to have him put that in writing so I have proof?

You should strongly consider not entering into the agreement. If you do, put it in writing and demand copies of all checks.
