Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Hello,

I have a teenage son. I share joint custody of him with his father. His father is married. I received a school schedule yesterday, which listed the stepmom, as a parent/guardian. Though she is married to my son's father, she is not a parent or guardian. She does not take an interest in my son's life or come to meetings with teachers or anything like that. She never attended any family court hearings/meetings. I want her name removed as a parent/guardian from my son's file, and I want to advise the school she does not have any parental rights as far as Ethan is concerned, meaning she is not to sign documents, know confidential information, etc. I have been advised in the past, this is my right.

How should I address this with the school?

Show them the custody/visitation order and demand that her name be removed from the records.

However, even if you take her name off the list, the father can tell his wife anything he wants about your son, including school records, medical records, etc.
