Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Indian Giver

A family member gave me some rifles 9 months ago and now they are asking for them back. Am I obligated by law to give them back? No papers were signed by either party.

If the rifles were given as a gift, the answer is no. If the rifles were given to hold for safekeeping until request was made for its return, the answer is yes.
