Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My wife and I are headed for a separation. We have 2 little boys under the age of ten. I want to be able to see my kids more than once or twice a week but I know full custody usually goes to the mother. What are the grounds of getting joint custody and how, if possible, can a father get full custody? Also, I have no problem giving the house to my wife but what are the specific requirements for me to be able to see my kids frequently? I really dont know the correct steps to take to begin the process and want to make sure eveything is done right for the best interest of the kids. Thank you

You seem to have many issues to contend with including distribution of property, support, and custody / visitation. I recommend you speak to a lawyer.

I could go on about factors that are considered in a custody / visitation trial, but doing so at this time would be imprudent without knowing more. An attorney who is completely aware of your circumstances would be a better judge of the steps you should take. Set up a consultation, most attorneys offer them for free.

If you both have attorneys and can come to some mutual agreement ,judicial intervention can be minimalized. Assuming both parents are responsible and can provide a stable environment for the children, then the custody issues can be resolved through negotiation.
