Legal Question in Medical Leave in New York

domestic cohabitation

If a couple cohabitats in the state of new yorkk in a home that is owned by only one of the couple and the couple decides to do renovation and the owner pays for ALL the materialls, appliances etc., and the other person of the couple offers to do the physcial labor (no contracts were made verbal or written) and the person who did the labor ends the relationship and says they are leaving, do they have the right to sue or at that time (when they end the relationship) demandpayment for labor if they never had an agreement of ANY kind prior for payment?
