Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Collecting on a judgement

I won a case in NY small claims court against a towing company. To date this company has not paid up and I was wondering what my options are for collection. I did not win a rather large sum, just over $100.

I read I could locate banking information by obtaining state sales tax permits or if unsuccessful obtain a bank levy.

Is there any truth to this or am I going about this the wrong way?

Re: Collecting on a judgement

The Small Claims Court has a booklet with information about this, advising what the court will do for you.

Beyond that, you need to have the judgment recorded in the county clerk's office if you plan on executing it. You obtain the minutes

of the recorded judgment from the county clerk's file and than send it to the sheriff with a judgment Levy and the necessary fee. The sheriff will enforce the judgment.
