Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

I have a friend who bought some car parts (Motor, Tranny) from someone who claimed they were of a specific type. My friend picked up and bought the items to later find out by his mechanic that the parts were not the ones he intended to buy. My friend has a few messages from the guy stating that they were the parts he had asked for. Does my friend have a case and if so what can he get out of it?

It depends upon who made the mistake. Was your friend specific in stating the parts he needed to buy? If the parts provided by the seller were sufficient to what was requested, then your friend has no case. If the parts were not what was stated then there was no deal and your friend has a case.
