Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

internet posting for another

basically my son posted some libelous statements on an internet site for a relative of his. he has been served papers. the libeled party is nto really after my son but the people who fed him the information to post. they want him to give them everything he has with the possibility of leniancy at eh end of the trial of the otehrs involved. no promises but a handshake sort of thing. they said they cant give an actual release intil the trial is over since the other sides attorneys will say he made an agreement to save his own skin and throw out any testimony he might give them. i am looking for any advice anyone can give me. they is a poor 27 year old kid who just got out of the service after 6 years and has a disability.

While what your son did was tortious and he should get a lawyer... In reality very few lawyers would prosecute a claim against him b/c he is a disabled vet with no $. Even if there was a judgment against him you can't draw blood from a stone.

Your son needs to be represented by a qualified libel defense attorney. From your post it sounds as though the trial has already begun - if he's pro se he is in serious jeopardy.

He should contact and retain an attorney ASAP.
