Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Notice of repairs

Management of the building where I reside decided to do some repairs on the outside of the building. They put up a notice, advising tenants to close their windows. The notice was delivered in a middle of a week and work began immediately without waiting for tenants to come home and read it. As a result my apartment was trashed with dust and debris. Is management legally responsible for the damage done to my apartment?
