Small Claims Court

i have a signed note stating that a person will pay a bill. however, they have not fufilled their responsibility. the amountis 5,000. what papers do i need to bring to the court to begin the process of filing a suit? Please help!

If you are outside of NYC just go to the court. The papers are there . You fill out the summons and complaint by hand, pay $20 to the clerk, and the court serves the summons on the defendant. You need a current address.

Once the papers are served, then you are notified of the trial date and you must bring all your evidence. You should get the small claims guide at the court. That will explain the procedures in more detail.
