Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

I am a US Citizen and my boyfriend is from Switzerland. We will be getting engaged and then married in the next 6 months. What is the process for bringing him here so that he can get a temporary green card and be able to work in the US? I have heard of the finance visa but I know that a. we would need to marry within 90 days and b. he can't necessarily leave the country after he gets it and while he waits for a temporary green card. Also, before he comes here to marry me, he needs to be able to find a job and then travel back to Switzerland to get his life in order before we get married. I have heard other couples getting married outside of the US then applying for a visa and waiting for it in the foreign country. Then, upon receipt, traveling to America and waiting for a green card there. Any clarification and direction would be helpful.

In general you might have 2 options:

one is getting married in USA, and applying for green card here. The process takes approximately 6-7 months. Within 3 months you future husband will get employment authorization and will be able to work.

Another option - applying for fiance visa, and then upon his entry to the United States, you have 3 months to get married and apply for his green card.
