is ther a difference bettween fingerprints and bakcground check?

i'm waiting on my green card but it's taking long over a year and a half because they are waiting for background check ?

waht is a background check is it different from fingerprints ? because my fingerprints came back i dont' understand how they said they are still waiting for a background check how long does it usually take for the background check to come back ?

Your fingerprints are required to perform background checks. So "fingerprints" and "background check" are related. Lately, it has been taking an unusually long amount of time to get background checks in. That is why many people choose to file complaints in federal courts to compel the USCIS to expedite these background checks.
