Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New York

I am concerned about the use of an already used verb in the title of a musical I

I am writing a comical musical spoofing the slasher movies of the eighties. I started work on this several years ago, and the working title has always been ''STAB: The Musical.'' About a year after I started working on it, the movie ''Scream'' came out, followed shortly by ''Scream 2.'' In ''Scream 2'' there is a reference and clips from a 'movie within the movie' entitled ''STAB.'' Now it looks as if my musical may really be produced and I am concerned about the title and the fact that the same title, minus, of course, the musical part, was used in an entertainment piece in a vaguely similar genre. Is this going to be a problem? Can one even copyright a simple verb? Please advise.

Thank You
