Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New York

if a show never renewed their copyright for some episoids can i renew or buy the copyright? If so does the company have to give my the film(not to keep but to remaster at my expense)?

Assuming the copyright has lapsed (big assumption by the way and needs to be verified) then it is in the public domain and you can do what you like with it.
