Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in New York

17 year old son wants to move out

Our 17 year old son wants to move out and live with his 18 year old girlfriend. Can we legally stop him? What are his rights? What are our rights/responsibilities as his parents?

Yes you can stop him from moving out of your home. It is not easy however.

You can under a number of circumstances also limit the amount of time he sees her. You should get a lawyer to discuss your options. Obviously, you can bring a PINS petition, or you can even bring a writ of Habeus Corpus.

Good Luck.
