Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I began working for a company, through a temp-agency, right after I broke my ankle. My ankle was in a cast when they hired me and allowed me to work, however, once the doctor explained I must have surgery to fix my problem, I was \"let go\". Is that legal?\nI am a paralegal, however, I have not practiced any type of law in New York. I am from Alabama and recently moved here. I spoke with the Judge I worked for in Alabama and she suggested that I use your website to ask due to State to State laws.\nThank you for your help!\nAmanda Hicks
