Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Is there a code of ethics governing individual Employers?

Hi. Other than state criminal and civil laws, I'm wondering if NY has any set of laws, codes or other statutes governing the professional conduct and/or ethics of Employers in an Employer/Independent Contractor relationship. I'm about to sign a contract as an Indep. Contractor and I would like some language in the agreement providing protection from unethical behavior / actions by my prospective Employer, covered under some official body of law. There's GOT to be a standard definition for ''unethical acts'' somewhere under NY Law within the Employer/employee context, no? Any info or references pointing in the right direction would be SO helpful. Thank you in advance.

Sorry, but there is no legal standard. Some professions have ethics standards as part of their licensing rules (ie doctors, lawyers etc.) but no there is no such legislation to help you here outside of the Criminal/Penal and Civil Code.

Good Luck.
