Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Employment Law

I believe I was fired without cause. My Boss said my work has been excellent, but that he and the Business Manager had misrepresented the job to me (they had, & had broken promises repeatedly regarding my duties there). The Boss acknowledged there was a ''personality conflict'' with the Business Manager, who wrote a letter asking me to resign, with a month's pay (to stop if I find a job at any point during the month), no possibility of UI, and that if the letter isnt kept confidential Im dropped from payroll before 30-days.. The Business Manager quit herself, so why she wanted to get rid of me (on her last day) seemed personal rather than professional. The Business Manager made it impossible for me to work there, and I developed stress-related physical problems, which I kept private, and which didnt affect my work. If I sign the letter and anyone guesses why I left then she can blame me for lack of confidentiality. Do I have a right to ask for severance instead? The letter they put before me that makes me look culpable (''you are agreeing to leave based on conversations related to your performance and our expectations'') when I have great reviews? Should I get a lawyer to try to negotiate a better letter?

Re: Employment Law

I handle severance/firing cases such as this and work with you and your employer to negotiate a fair severance package. Under no circumstances should you sign this letter without reviewing this letter with an attorney.

If you would like to discuss this matter further, you may contact me via email.
