Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Fired due to illness

Can I be fired for getting sick and missing work days? Those missed work days are excused as I have doctor's notes for all of them; also can I be fired without a warning?? Do I need a lawyer to file for disability income?

Thank you for your promt response.

Can you be fired, yes. Is it legal to fire you for a legitimate illness, no.
