Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I'm currently on maternity leave and set to return to work next week. (I am an editor at a magazine.) My work schedule upon hire was 4 full days a week. This was always the case and the reason I took the job. Now, just days before returning to work I'm told that my schedule will need to be 5 full days (a change in pay was never mentioned).

Can my work legally do this? I was hired with a 4-day work week. I quit a job and took a paycut for that schedule.

You may have a cause of action against your employer but this is not a simple black and white issue. You need to determine if you are being singled out or if this is a company-wide change in addition to determining if there is an ulterior motive behind the company's actions. I would advise you to speak with an attorney immediately.
