Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Pay and training

My daughter works for a child day care center making $7.15 / hour. She has been required by her employer to attend an 8 hour CPR training course on her own time which has been held at the day care center. She has been told that she will not be paid for the time spent at this course. Is her employer required by law to pay for her time spent in this training seminar?

Re: Pay and training

Depending upon the type and size of her employer, your daughter may be eligible for that time that she spent at training. Normally, training time is paid work time especially when the training time occurs during an employee's regular shift, or if it is required by the employer. If you would like to discuss this further, please email me below. Our firm has worked on these types of issues in the past and would welcome the opportunity to discuss them with you further.
