Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

wrongful termination

I was working for libbs and found an a great opportunity to work for LA weight loss. Prior to accepting the job I called the district manager because i had concerns about the position i had accepted. She assured me that i would get 45,000 a year and would work about 50 hours per week, with a 6 to 7 percent commission if i exceeded the stores goal. I told her that i needed it in writing and she told me not to worry that things were going to work out. I then submitted my letter of resignation and left the place of employment. I began my training at LA weight loss and the trainer had a few difficulties with me regarding my pay and the hours to be worked and the commission that was promised to me. After a day and half of work i was terminated, the reason was that i didnt execute the script that was to be memorized was up to their standards meanwhile i feel i did extremely well, was never informed of a script to be learned or that i would get fired if they felt i was what they were looking for. If i would have know this i would have stayed at my job. Is there anything i can do?

thank you

Re: wrongful termination

You can probably sue to get your moving costs back, but without a contract you have little leverage for anything else. The cost of litigation may be higher than these costs.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.
