Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Eviction

My husband and I live with my father in law in his home. We have been here for almost a year now and since we got a puppy, whom has medd a mess from time to time, he has been threatening to ''evict'' us. He has now gone as far as drawn up a letter frm his lawyer saying we have 30 days to leave. I want to know before I go and waste my time and money on legal assistance, is it possible to evict a family member who grew up this house, especially when there is no formal lease or even any written agreement? He is trying to take us to court, but at home is completely normal. Its puzzling to me. So can you please answer my question at your earliest convenience. Thank you!

Re: Eviction

If the house is not in your husband's name but only in your father in law, you are there under "license" from him and that "license" can be revoked.

So, yes, you can be ejected.
