Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Landlord - tenant - stepmother

After my dad past, my sister was put on the lease. My stepmother gave up her rights. Now, after 3 years she went to the landlord and changed it to her name. the landlord nor my step mother informed my sister who was on the lease. Now my step mother wants us out or she will ask the landlord for a buyout This is a rent stablized apt. Can my step mother win a buyout even though my sister was on the lease and it was not expired yet or is it likely in our favor?

You have a very interesting situation. Technically, the step mother could win the buyout. But you have some good defenses. If you are interested in learning about your defenses and what you can do, please contact me and let's discuss the matter further.
