Legal Question in Legal Ethics in New York

Is it illegal for someone to video tape you without your knowledge and there is no written consent? This was not a sexual video. The friend that was also in this video is threatening to show it. I believe this friend is trying to alter the video to take herself out of it. Is there anything I can do?
