Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in New York

My civil lawsuit was filed two years ago and all depositions have been done, a motion for trial was made in early December. In a few weeks a pretrial conference will take place. My attorney is expecting that our case will not go to trial so can I expect settlement negotiations to begin at the conference? I'm just not sure of the point of this conference if discovery is complete and my lawyer says we aren't going to have to go to trial. Any ideas?

I think you should ask your lawyer these questions. I don't understand why people with retained counsel don't demand answers of the lawyer that THEY hired.
