Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in New York

Hernia times two

a few months ago i was experiencing pain in my stomach along with a lump above my belly button, when i went to the er they gave me a xray and confirmed i had a hernia, i scheduled an appt at my hospital for surgery, after the surgery i still had the same symptoms so i went back to my hospital to learn that they repaired something else, apparently an umbilical hernia, what should have been repaired was an epigastric hernia. i am curious to know whether both hernias would have been visible on the xray taken at the er. i had two separate surgerys that were very painful and this could have been prevented if i was given the correct info. i am wondering who is at fault the er or the hospital (separate locations) and what can i do
