Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

In a federal civil case can the other party hire an attorney that you have had a consultation with? If no, is there a period of time that they can't?

In any case where you have consulted with an attorney, that attorney would be ethically barred from representing an opposing party in the same litigation about which you consulted him.
