Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

slip/fall in front of house

someone fell on the street in front of my house becuase of ice buildup-claims broken arm. The house is in nyc and is a one family private residence in which I live. Who is responsible and can the person sue?

You can and very likely will be sued. You can also be held liable (responsible) if you were negligent, that is, if you did not act reasonably in clearing the ice.

If you have homeowners insurance, call and write them immediately and report the claim. They will defend you in any lawsuit and indemnify you for any damages sustained. If you fail to contact your carrier or if you delay, they will disclaim and you will be on your own.
