what is the proper procedure in removing my name as a co signer for a purchase of a vechicle?

You would have to receive a release from the entity or person that is selling the vehicle.

I am assuming that you are referring to having your name removed as a co-signor of a loan. (I am also assuming that you have already co-signed and the loan has already been disbursed.) You would need to contact the lender to discuss your options. Is the principal signor able to take over the loan by himself?
