Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Deed name change

Hi

I have had a legal name change and would like to have the deed to my house changed. I have checked at the law libary and with others and no one seems to know how to go about this. There will be no property change just a legal name change. I did find one state that had a form for this but it did not apply to NY . Thank you so much!

Jodie

Re: Deed name change

In order to change the name of the record owner a new deed from your old name to your new name will be necessary. You will have to pay for recording the deed and the property transfer report, but no transfer tax.

If you get the deed form from a title company and copy the description accurately you should be able to do this yourself.
