what happens if i inherit money while on social services in nys

It depends on the type of services. If you are talking about Medicaid and SSI, then you might very well lose those services. If you see a qualified elder lawyer, the lawyer can set up a trust so that you have use of the inheritance during your lifetime. If you are talking about SSDI, then nothing will happen. Section 8 housing and food stamp programs have even different rules.
