Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

the named executor of a will (a lawyer) has not done anything in more than 3 years (not even probated the will).

Its a small estate will and all beneficiaries are not us citizens or residents.

Retaining a lawyer for legal procedures is probably very costly and not worthwhile.

Is it possible to file for replacement of the executor from overseas

Unless the originally-named executor resigns this cannot be done. Is there a successor named in the Will? To be probated the original Will is needed. Who has it? The probate itself may not be expensive and it is always best to use an attorney.
