Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

I received a letter that I am a heir their is 12 people listed but lawyer said it is going to be split 7 my father passed so I get his share she said since I am only child..My question is his brother who also passed had a few kids does his share go to the oldest or all of his kids because then it would only be seven heirs.Can you just explain how it is normally broken down

All of your brother's children would share his inheritance equally unless your father's will states differently.
