Whilst the life span of a cheque in Nigeria is six months and as such, all issued cheques must be cashed within six months of being issued, there is no statute of limitation on dud cheques in Nigeria. This is because the very act of issuing a dud cheque is a criminal offence under the Dud Cheques Act and as such liable to criminal prosecution. Since there is no statute of limitation in respect of criminal offences, it stands to reason that statute of limitation is not applicable to dud cheques in Nigeria.
