I cosigned for a car for my son

i am on the title i do not want him to leave the state can i stop him.

The only way for you to be safe is to take possession of the car and keep it in a locked area. Unfortunately if both names are on the title, he has a right to possess the car, and you can't "stop" him from taking it and leaving with it. You also have to be sure and make the payments yourself, on time, and have the statements sent to you. They don't have to give you notice if the statements are mailed to him and he doesn't make the payments. By the time they notify you that payments are not being made, your credit will already be negatively affected.
