Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

I've been a longtime customer with Macy's. On credit karma with transunion it has that I was 30-59 days once in 2013. I really don't recall ever being that late. I disputed it with transunion but they reported that it was accurate. Credit Karma advised me to call them. First person I spoke to said they wouldn't be able to remove it. The agent offered to let me speak to a manager. Manger said that unless it was their error or my banks error would not remove. I did ask if there wasn't anything they could considering my history. No, she said. Then made a comment that it was strange that it's not showing on Equifax. Then proceeded to put me on a long hold as if she was really researching to see if there was something she could do. Only to come back 20 minutes later to say the exact same thing. I checked my score on Credit Karana a couple of days later and my Equifax is down 16 points and she reported to Equifax! I read that legal their nor to report to all 3 bureaus. She added a note saying I disagree with charges and disputing accuracy. Is there anything I can do?

You can pull your bank statements and credit card bills and get absolute proof that you did not pay late. You may be able to download the account statements for free from their web site. Macy's credit (Department Store National Bank) is required to send you copies of statements when you request them. Call the number on the back of your card and ask for copies of all statements from 2013. If you have proof, then mail a written dispute to each of the credit bureaus and make sure to say this is different than your prior dispute because you are attaching new evidence. Send certified mail return receipt requested and save the green cards, Do not just use credit karma for your disputes. You have no claims for them reporting to Equifax based upon your phone call. Next time, get your proof in hand before you dispute, never dispute over the phone, always dispute in writing with the evidence. Do it soon, because they are not required to keep copies of old billing statements forever.

Get your real credit reports from each of the 3 major credit bureaus atwww.annualcreditreport.com. I agree with the other adivce by Attorney Coleman. If there is incorrect information on your credit report, then you are going to have to get evidence.

I don't know where you got your information that it is not legal to report to a certain credit bureau. Many creditors will only report to one bureau but ideally, the same information should appear on ALL your credit reports and it is not illegal for a creditor to report to a bureau.

You need to dispute with the credit bureaus in writing first, then the creditor IF you have information to substantiate your claim that the bill was timely paid in order to sue. It sounds like you already disputed this with Trans Union. If so, then you dispute in writing to Macy's, but what evidence of timeliness do you have other than just your say so? They will not remove it unless there was some error on their part. If your bank messed up that is not Macy's fault. Payments have to be 30 or more days behind to get reported.

Why is your credit such a big issue? Are you trying to get credit (like a house or car)?
