Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

In NC I have to NSF checks from 2007 I moved for a job and closed the account to early and found out a year later never served but they do have them in the clerk of courts office so I have never been to the majistrates office it is now 2015 can I still be charged or should I just try to pay them or get a lawyer to help keep off record

There are two procedures in NC - one civil and one criminal for collecting on bad checks. Sounds like if this is in the clerk's office its criminal. I do not know where you moved or if you left the state - if so, statute of limitations may have been tolled. Have you returned to NC?

If this is criminal, I suggest you go see a criminal law attorney as its on longer a simple debt collection matter.
