Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

need child custody

My name is Lauren Gossett and my fiancee and I are in a bit of a predicament re guarding his son. He was previously married and recently divorced and has a 2 year old son. He and his ex wife haven't gone to court for custody yet but she signed a written agreement saying that they would share Kamryn for the time being with him staying 2 months with each parent. She signed this in June but has not followed it. She refuses to let him see his son. We need to figure out what we can do to get his son. We are on a limited budget so we need to figure out how much the entire process would cost. If you could tell us our options and about how much it would cost

Re: need child custody

You should get an attorney to file suit for child custody and/or visitation. The rates differ a little depending on what county you are in. In Wake County, for example, most attorneys would ask for an initial retainer deposit of at least $3000 to $5000 and would charge $140 to $200 an hour. If you cannot afford this, ask the local court clerk's office if there are any workshops that tell people how to handle cases on their own. I wish you the best of luck.
