Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

My wife and I have just separated--we have 2 small children. She lives in Virginia, I now live in North Carolina. She has and is having problems with Alcohol--1 DUI, 2 incidents of leaving the small children un-attended and police being called by neighbors to help the unattended children for safety. Can I take the children to live with me in North Caroling (I'm now living with my parents); as I fear for their safety?

Thanks

Yes you can take them but you'd likely get into trouble and be violation several state and federal laws. The legal way to get them is through a court order and / or DSS / CPS.
