I ask the court to appoint me an attorney and they refused. I explained to the court it was very difficult to work in my condition. I was found in contempt and ordered to pay $1000 by next Wednesday should I appeal? in my condition I can't really work therefore I have no way to get 1000 dollars what should I do?

You should have hired an attorney and that is still what you should do. Count yourself lucky things worked out the way they did - obviously the Judge wants to work with you in some fashion. In my district, our judges have a different take on motivating people who poor mouth about child support, they usually just throw them in jail at square one and set a cash bond the equivalent of what is owed in child support. Want outta jail? Pony up the child support - problem solved easy peasy, lemon squeezy. It is amazing to see people paying thousands of dollars in back child support who just moments before sworn up and down before god and everyone that they didn't have a penny to their name.
