Legal Question in Civil Litigation in North Carolina

I loaned my girlfriend my laptop. She went through it and found porn sites I'd visited, dating sites I'd been a member of, emails to other people, male and female. In an angry breakup she then told other people about things she found on the laptop, including contents of private emails, without my consent or permission. Her sharing that info has potentially negatively affected my career. Were her actions illegal and if it hurts my career do I have any legal recourse?

You may have a cause of action - you need to consult with an attorney that is knowledgeable about invasion of privacy. I would just add this little bit for you to think about - even though you may possibly have a legal claim, you certainly are not coming to the table with clean hands. You loaned your girlfriend the laptop - had you not made that one really bad choice this would likely not be an issue. Further, you admit you did the things that she is telling other people about so again had you chosen to not do those things this would likely not be an issue. Basically, you are blaming Pandora instead of blaming the contents of the box.
