Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

I am living in an apartment under a 1 year lease for $720 a month. The lease agreement says that I must give a 60 day notice before moving out within the lease period or a 30 day notice once the lease period ends. I gave a notice to leave 25 days before my lease ended but they are forcing me to stay another 30 days past the lease and be financially responsible for the apartment for those 30 days. Also, they have raised my rent without notice to $1200 a month. I have not agreed to this increase or signed anything agreeing to it. They will not give me an option to vacate before the rent increase. The North Carolina state law only requires a 30 day notice to quit for a year lease, and a 7 day notice for a month to month lease. Am I required to pay a rental increase that I have not agreed to without the option of moving out first before the increase? And do I have to give a 30 day notice to vacate as required by the lease for month to month, or do I only have to give 7 days as required by the law? Please help.

If the lease specifies 60 days, you need to give 60 days notice. I don't think they should be able to increase the rent - when did they give notice of the rent increase?
