Military disharge upgrade

Dear sir/maam, I was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1996 with a Bad Conduct Discharge. I went AWL for my best friend's funeral, got scared and did not return until I was apprehended by law enforcement.I was wondering what the odds of getting it upgraded would be. I currently work as a Peace Officer and would like to possibly get hired by a state agency. Unfortuneatly, I would need my Discharge upgraded to be considered. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

It's possible, but you have to petition the Discharge Review Board before 2011.

You may have a chance if in public service.
