Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

I have 1 brother, our mother has put both of our names on her house and she has lifetime living rights. My brother is a real ASS and keeps telling me after she dies he will not sign anything to sell her house or settle her estate. He is so stupid he thinks it is his way of keeping me from getting anything from her estate. He doesn't think it will keep him from getting what he wants. He has also said he plans of waiting until I die and then he will have it all. He doesn't realize that my half would go to the beneficiaries of my estate not to him. How can I get my name off of the house so I will not be responsible for 1/2 of the taxes for all the years it will sit and deteriorate? I have already asked mom to remove my name but she wants each of us to have 1/2 of what she has left. Which is not much the house is old and in bad shape, I feel I would be better off having to deal with the ASS.

Actually, its simple. After she passes...deed your half to him since that's what he wants anyway. You can also speak to an attorney to draft the property deed to transfer your interest subject to the life estate.
