Legal Question in Business Law in Ohio

Can a lawyer work for an accounting firm? If not, can a lawyer work in a paralegal capacity for an accounting firm? Where is the line drawn?

As a Franchise Attorney I need to ask two questions: (1) what would the lawyer be doing; and (2) for who? If he or she is simply an in-house counsel, working on matters solely for the accounting firm (and not any of its clients), that is one fact scenario. But if the attorney is doing any legal work for clients of the accounting firm, then the firm is likely engaged in the unauthorized practice of law if it is not a professional law corporation. In that fact scenario, besides the accounting firm's liability, the attorney's license to practice law may be jeopardized. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
