Post dating Checks

Is it legal for a payday loan company to have you post date a check when they know that there are no funds in the checking account?

A date on a check has no legal significance of any kind. It is merely a convenience for the drawer. All the bank is concerned about is if the money is in the account when the check goes through the system. It makes no reference to the date at all.
