Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

my grandson is 17 and was caught at school with adult porn of his cell phone,along with five others,the police was there and read him his rights,but did not arrest him and wanted his phone(he gave them his phone freely) they still have his phone- they told him he would have to appear in court and might have to register as sex offender for ten years,he was expelled from school for five days,back in school now..he hasen't been in any kind of trouble before and did not know it was against the law to have adult porn on phone..this was four weeks ago..his father is out of work and can't afford a lawyer, its really affecting my grandson mentally,he is losing weight,can't sleep,can't concentrate on schoolwork,we are really worried about him,is there anything we can do? please help us...Thank you

This is a very serious matter. If the family cannot afford to hire an attorney, then you should ask the Court to appoint a public defender.
