Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

Understanding a docket

My friend has charges of ''attempted pandering sexual material of a minor'' brought against him. He has been to court for the past 2 years continuously claiming ''not guilty''. He did not want to have this as a jury case, so he entered a plea of ''guilty'' (which added the attempted to the charges). The last statement on the docket states that he was referred to the state adult parole authority for pre-sentence evaluation and report. Does this mean that he has been convicted? Is there any chance that the charges may be dropped?

Re: Understanding a docket

A guilty plea is a complete admission of the charge. There is no chance that the case will be dismissed after a guilty plea has been accepted. The referral to the adult parole authority is to prepare a presentence report to help the judge decide what sentence to impose.

he actually wasn't "convicted", he admitted he did it. that is what "i'm guilty" means. have him talk to his lawyer if he is unhappy.
